Nutritious Meals For School Lunches

Whether you have one child or more, the truth is those mornings can be tremendously busy. From packing the children’s lunch to getting ready for work, mornings can be absolutely crazy and daunting. Adding another list of things to do in the morning is the last thing anyone needs, but sometimes it’s necessary.

Speaking of necessary things to do, ensuring that your children get to take nutritious meals to school should be among them. The importance of starting your child early on eating healthy cannot be overstated, and neither can involving them in those healthy choices. This is because children start forming patterns of their future lifestyle early, especially in a school environment.

Admittedly, you can hardly envision yourself preparing nutritious meals for your children on a busy morning. Yet, with a little motivation, some inspiration, and the right ingredients, you’ll be well on your way to safeguarding your children’s health. To help you out, below are a few ideas for nutritious meals for school lunches.

Peanut Butter And Bacon Wrap

Let’s face it, Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches are the go-to for school lunches. They are easy to fix, and the children never seem to mind. Take your children by surprise and throw in a new twist by fixing up this wonderful peanut butter and bacon wrap.

Ingredients

Peanut butter

Cooked bacon

Honey

1 wheat or gluten-free wrap

Banana

Method

Apply some peanut butter on the wheat wrap.

Chop the cooked bacon into small pieces before sprinkling it onto the peanut butter covering the wheat wrap. Make sure that you don’t use a lot of bacon. A little will do just fine.

Smear some honey before slicing the banana into pieces. Note, use very little honey. Once the banana is sliced,  place the slices on the same wheat wrap.  Roll it up.

While packing, add some more fruits and vegetables to keep the meal balanced. A couple of sliced carrots, tomatoes and cucumbers on the side will also add some color to the dish.

Hummus And Veggies

Regardless of the veggies, children love hummus. It’s a combination that they simply can’t turn down.

Ingredients

Cucumber

Tomatoes

Celery sticks

Carrots

Some hummus

Watermelon

Chicken/ boiled eggs

Method

Slice the cucumber, celery sticks, and carrots before slicing the tomatoes in half.

Chop the watermelon into small cubes, and place them in a different compartment in the lunch box

Pack all the vegetables together, with the hummus separate.

Add some chicken or boiled egg to keep the meal balanced and enjoyable.

Chicken Salad and Greek Yogurt

This is a perfectly balanced and nutritious food that is easy to make in the morning. You can always meal prep the night before to make it easier on you in the morning. It’s cheap too because it allows you to use any leftover chicken.

Drizzling Greek Yogurt onto the salad is just the icing on the cake when it comes to this amazing recipe.

Ingredients

½ cup Greek Yogurt

1/3 cup of celery sticks

2 cups of chicken

1 cup of grapes

3 tablespoons of fresh or dried tarragon

2 tablespoons of lemon juice

Method

Slice the grapes in half before slicing the celery sticks. Then, once you’ve measured out the rest of the ingredients, mix them all into a bowl. Notably, the chicken should be skinless and shredded.

Make a few sandwiches and add some vegetables such as cucumbers and lettuce to the lunch box. Slice a few apples to add some fruit for a balanced diet.

There are a number of healthy school lunches that you can make and pack for your children. All you need is to keep the meal balanced, never forgetting to play around with vegetables and fruits as well. Presentation matters as well when it comes to adding appeal to the entire meal.
